What we hope to accomplish in starting Year 2009 and till June 2009

1. Justine’s Running: should start right after the screenplay is finished.\
2. Thanakrit’s Remedy Video.
3. The completion of the Ranking Poster: shall be hung on that big white space in the MVC club room.
4. Taking part in the RFC: filming?
5. French Club Movie: script-editting and rehearsal in progress
6. Shanghai Student Film Festival: due March 28th

   a.       Audience: people who wants to come.

   1.       Classes (overview).

   2.       The astronomy tower.

   3.       College acceptance: report card.

   4.       CSL, electives, course subjects.

   5.       Sports facilities.

   6.       College counseling.

   7.       Zooming from outer space into the earth- into china- into shanghai- into SMIC. Alien visits the school.

   8.       Four families traveling into shanghai and enrolls in SMIC.

   9.       SHARKS tour guide: showing sharks sports.

   10.   NEW student-teacher-parent in SMIC, from perspective of new students.

   a.       Narrated.

   b.      Interviews/ conversations.

   THE CHOSEN IDEA:  Documentary of Idea 10.

• Story from 4 different perspectives:
  • Kindergarten Family
  • Graduated Student
  • High School Family
  • New Teacher
• Four families arrive at school at the same day to explore the school with a guide.
• Through them, we will show the information such as College Acceptance, Facilities, etc.
• There will be a “story-within-a-story” in each families/individual, such as:
  • Kindergarten: Sees the Kindergarten facilities, while the student accidentally falls in the corridor, and the nurse takes care of him very nicely
  • Graduated Student: Sees Facilities improve, involves in a fundraising event he used to be a part in, dinner with the friends
  • High School Family: Sees curriculums and college acceptance information while being touched by the details and care of the counselor.
  • Teacher: Sees hardworking faculty and be motivated.
• Four stories is going to happen at the same time with cuts to each other almost randomly. Time is what linking them together.
• At last, they will all be witnessing the RFC – our school’s special and unique event
• No narrator is needed
• Interview will be done in conversations between the perspectives and the respective teachers (such as counselor, etc.)

I took the liberty of having a new design of the site. With more updates and news coming up, I hope you guys will enjoy this change =)

Oh man, it was a long time since the last newsletter. So in this issue we have a lot to talk about. Ready? Let’s go.

Movie Ideas Meeting
Alright! So now we have some money from the fundraising we did before, we can now start filming. According to the filming process: http://peter.novahost.org/2008/09/filmmaking-process/, we are at the development stage right now, and so we need everybody’s inputs.

The meeting is going to be held next Monday and Tuesday during lunch time 12:40 at Movie Club room. Everybody is allowed to join us to listen ideas and suggest things. It will be an insightful meeting. We will brainstorm together, and talk things like the details of the movies such as actors, start date/end date, potential of each member, etc.

Any member is allowed to join us! But of course, once you came, please try to focus on the discussion as we want to get this done as soon as possible

Domain for MVC Website
I know I know. This might soudn annoying, but we have to get this done. Domains that hve been suggested, such as mvcproductions, movierevolution, etc. has all been taken by somebody else, so we can’t really choose them. So please suggest some other cool names =)

To those who just joined the MVC, we have a special meeting with you!

Starting from the week after Midterms, we will arrange some personal interview with you guys to see what you guys are good at and how you can help. Don’t worry – you won’t get “kicked out” of the club.

Define “Newcomers”? Anyone that are not in the club last year, but decided to join it this year.

Start sending emails to smicmovieclub at gmail dot com saying your preferred time and we will arrange a meeting with you (it will be about 5 mintes)

I would just like to say a “Thank you” for those who helped out on the Autumn Carnival Night. Without your help we couldn’t make it (Yes i know it is lame, you don’t need to tell me that)

We don’t know the exact amount of money we earned, but once we do, we will inform you guys immediately. =)

We will launch a series of short film projects from now on. We currently have 3 ideas so far, but if you have an idea that is film-able, feel free to tell us!

Below is a list of films we will start working on in the next few weeks. If you see a row that says [hiring] at the back, feel free to reply to this thread and tell us you want to do it. If not, chances are you won’t get to participate in the project! (that’s really sad =( )

Alright guys,

I know Yvette already sent an email to all saying “Thank you”, but I realised that as a VP, I need to write something about it too.

The Sports Day fundraiser, as you all know, was a great success. We earned in the total 1615 RMB. Along with 715 that we earned last year’s White Valentine’s Day event, our fund is now over 2300 RMB. That’s a lot, if you ask me.

Thank you for all who participated in this event. You guys all did great, and without you guys the sports day would be such a mess (Yvette didn’t say it so I did )

Alright, we will need to start planning for the next fundraiser. Any ideas?
